Khara House came to Flagstaff in 2009 to study English at Northern Arizona University; she graduated with her master's degree in 2011. When Khara came to Flagstaff, she instantly fell in love with the unique mountain community, its expansive engagement of the Arts, and its diverse cultures, neighborhoods, and worldviews.
Khara's passion for service and community engagement has led to membership with NAACP Flagstaff, Coconino County's African Diaspora Advisory Council (ADAC), the Southside Community Association (SCA), NAMI Flagstaff, Flagstaff Young Professionals, and several other community and service organizations. Khara also serves on the boards for Flagstaff Shelter Services, Flagstaff's Lived Black Experience Project, and the Arizona Multihousing Association (AMA). She also serves as Vice Chair of the National Apartment Association's (NAA) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Prior to her appointment to Flagstaff's City Council in May 2022, Khara served on the City's Commission on Diversity Awareness (2019) and as Vice Chair (2019-2021) and Chair (2022) of the City's Housing Commission.
On a personal note, Khara is a lover of animals and the Arts. She is a "humom" to two rambunctious cats and one calm Corgi Shepherd mix; all three members of her fur family are rescues. She is an avid reader and writer, and a lover of music, cinema, and various forms of artistic expression.
Please join Khara as she strives to foster a vibrant community for all who call this beautiful city home by writing in KHARA HOUSE on your ballot this November for Flagstaff City Council!
